Pinocchio is an episodic character on Once Upon a Time.
After the Third Curse
Princess Emma inspires Pinocchio to chisel as good as daddy. ("Tougher Than the Rest")
When the Evil Queen wishes for Emma to have never been the savior, the latter finds herself banished to a wish realm where she grew up a coddled princess, thanks to the Dark Curse never having been cast. In this realm, Princess Emma is good friends with the alternate version of Pinocchio, who, as a grown-up real boy, remains a puppeteer long after his father's death. Thanks to Regina following Emma on a rogue rescue mission, the princess regains her memories and becomes the savior once more, but a run-in with Robin of Locksley means that they accidentally squander their magic bean and need a new way of returning home to Storybrooke. Emma has the idea to hit up Pinocchio, thinking that maybe he'll have access to the magic wardrobe that was supposed to send the both of them to Maine many years prior, but, upon arriving at his woodwork shop and explaining everything to him, she is sad to hear that he dismantled it due to it reminding him of a darker time (when the Evil Queen reigned). This makes Regina feel as though everyone would have been better off without her, and so she sets off to find out whether the same is true for Robin; meanwhile, Emma and Pinocchio set out to find another enchanted tree with which to carve a brand new wardrobe. Pinocchio brings with him his father's special chisel, but then Captain Hook appears and mistakes the puppeteer for Emma's kidnapper, wanting to "rescue" the princess. Taking advantage of the pirate's clumsiness, Pinocchio takes his sword... but Hook takes his chisel, and tries dueling him with it. Fed up, Emma simply magics Hook away, but the chisel breaks in the process and Pinocchio fears he won't be able to work his way into the magical tree without it; after all, he isn't his father. Amid his things, Emma discovers a wooden swan with her name on it, wondering why he carved it for her, and he says it was a gift for her birthday, with him always having liked the story of the ugly duckling. Emma then realizes that it was the other Pinocchio who inspired her to take the name Swan as a child, and convinces this realm's version that if he believes hard enough that he can be as good as his father then he will be. New faith in tow, Pinocchio successfully carves the tree and constructs a new wardrobe, just in time for Regina to escape the many forces now chasing her and to bring Robin of Locksley with her. Pinocchio bids his princess friend goodbye, instilling her with the drive to change her fate. ("Tougher Than the Rest")
