You can't tell what's in a person's heart until you truly know them.

Belle is one of the main characters of Once Upon a Time. Chosen by Rumplestiltskin to pose as a caretaker in exchange for her family's well-being during the Ogre Wars, Belle starts to fall in love with her master, for unlike many others, she is able to see the man behind the beast. Her blossoming romance with the Dark One is cut short though, and she ends up prisoner of the Evil Queen up until the casting of the Dark Curse, where she spends the next 28 years trapped in the town of Storybrooke, now locked away in a mental asylum. She is freed shortly before the curse is broken, however, and she goes on to live as Belle Gold (née French), quickly reuniting with her beloved Rumple. Adjusting to her newfound life in Storybrooke isn't as easy as it seems though, for she is now tasked with helping the most darkened of ones along the bumpy road to redemption... but does she really have what it takes to achieve such a goal?

Before the Curse

You just don't think I can love you. Now you've made your choice and you're going to regret it forever. All you'll have is an empty heart... and a chipped cup.
Belle EL 517
In order to protect her kingdom, Belle accepts Gaston's marriage proposal. ("Her Handsome Hero")

Belle is approached by her father, Maurice, in regards of setting up an arranged marriage between her and Sir Gaston, whose own father's army is needed in a current battle against the ogres that threaten their kingdom. Belle is hesitant, especially given the information she has taken in about her potential suitor, but Gaston wishes to put these worries to rest during a walk. Things don't go as Belle expected, for the two of them hit things off rather well, but when a baby ogre is found stuck in a hole, Gaston believes it to be a spy and wishes to bring it back to the castle for interrogation. Belle, however, knows it'll simply be tortured, and so she disagrees. She convinces her potential husband-to-be to consult a magical antiquities book in order of finding a way to prove the ogre's innocence, which she is successful with, having found a magical mirror to do the trick. Belle and Maurice set out for the mirror, but when returning they find Gaston collapsed on the ground and the ogre gone. Everyone believes this to be the ogre's fault, but when the ogre is found, the mirror reveals that it was in fact Gaston's, who tortured the ogre in her absence until it broke free. Belle is appalled by this and refuses to let the ogre be harmed, allowing it to get away. Later on, however, it's revealed the ogres have breached the eastern region and that war is now unavoidable. Despite being very resentful of Gaston due to his treatment of the ogre, Belle still agrees to marry him, for the sake of her kingdom. ("Her Handsome Hero")

Belle EL 406
Needing to know the truth gets the best of Belle. ("Family Business")

As the Ogre Wars carry out, Belle and her mother are rushed by guards of their castle to pack their belongings before they can vacate in time to avoid an attack, but with both women attempting to get as many books as they possibly can, they end up being forced to hide, for an ogre has made its way inside. It doesn't take long for them to be discovered, but Belle's mind goes blank from there, for she instead wakes up, and quickly learns that her mother has passed away, having walked in on her funeral being held. Determined to seek out the infamous rock trolls to find out the truth behind her mother's passing, while her father Maurice tries to keep her from doing so, she flees the castle during the night and heads for the kingdom of Arendelle where she meets Anna, who happens to be on her way to visit the rock trolls, as well. There, Belle's missing memories are implanted in a stone which she is ordered to brew and drink, but when an incident with the Snow Queen occurs, the stone is destroyed, whereas Anna is taken captive. Belle returns home empty-handed, but Maurice confesses the truth anyway, revealing that her mother sacrificed herself so that the ogres would not kill Belle; she stood in the way, allowing the guards enough time to get her daughter to safety. Belle is finally able to make peace with what has happened, but with the war worsening, she shares knowledge with her father that she picked up on during her trip of a man who may be able to help... Rumplestiltskin. ("Family Business")

Belle EL 112 01
A deal is struck. ("Skin Deep")

The Ogre Wars continue to get worse, resulting in growing concern from Maurice, despite Belle attempts of reassurance. Their call to Rumplestiltskin is quickly answered though, and the Dark One reveals he is willing to make a deal. In exchange for his assistance with the ogres, he wishes to take Belle and have her work as his maid. Though Maurice was originally willing to accept Rumple's terms, he changes his mind when the safety of his daughter comes into question, and Belle's fiancé, Gaston, agrees as well, refusing to let her be endangered. Belle speaks for herself, however, and ignores Maurice and Gaston's pleas, making up her mind to be the Dark One's caretaker in exchange for the protection of those she cares about. This no longer gives Maurice and Gaston a say in the matter, and so Rumple takes Belle away, and back to his castle where he immediately throws her into the dungeons, deeming it to be her bedroom. Belle is later shown around the castle though, and told by Rumple the chores she will be tending to. In the process of this, however, the brunette goes to pour her new master a cup of tea, but instead chips the cup by dropping it on the floor. Though worried by his reaction at first, Belle is relieved to see the Dark One simply brush it off, for it's "just a cup". ("Skin Deep")

Belle 219
Belle gets through to the man behind the beast. ("Lacey")

Belle continues to cry in her cell, much to the annoyance of Rumplestiltskin who gives her a pillow to muffle the racket she's been making. A noise is heard upstairs and Belle follows her keeper as he goes to investigate and discovers a thief trying to steal a magic wand. Rumple apprehends the thief and takes him prisoner, meaning that Belle is forced to listen to the sound of his torture all day long. Feeling sorry for the thief, she sets him free, causing Rumple to become heavily distraught. He tells her that she fell for a rouse as the thief took the magic wand on his way out, but Belle still believes their to be noble intentions behind the robbery. To punish her stupidity, Rumple forces Belle to accompany him as he goes to find the thief so that he can kill him, but when they begin to lose track of him, they meet with the Sheriff of Nottingham, who offers to tell them of the thief's whereabouts in exchange for a night with Belle. Rumple refuses this offer and takes the sheriff's tongue, saying he can have it back if he tells him what he wants. The sheriff agrees and tells Rumple that the thief goes by Robin Hood and is hiding out in Sherwood Forest. Rumple and Belle find Robin and see him cure his dying love using the magic wand. Belle tells Rumple that this proves Robin's good intentions, but Rumple continues to take aim with the bow and arrow. They see that the woman is pregnant but Rumple fires anyway, however, his arrow misses, and as this is a bow that never misses its target, Belle takes it to mean there is some good in Rumple after all. When they return home, Rumple shows Belle a room full of books that she's able to read, and she is very thankful, despite him telling her that it's merely another room to clean. ("Lacey")

Belle EL 609
Belle tries to find Rumple's plans for Jack and Jill's son. ("Changelings")

Belle is eager to tell Rumple, upon his return to the Dark Castle, all the chores that she has completed in his absence. This is put on hold though when the Dark One leaves her with a stole baby, having plans that he does not intend to let the maid in on. Belle cares for the boy, reading him her favorite book from when she was a kid, and once calming the child down, she decides to find out what Rumple plans to do with the baby and stop him before it's too late. This leads Belle to searching through the Dark Castle, eventually discovering up in Rumple's tower some papers written in a fairy language. She translates that it has something to do with a being known as the Black Fairy; wondering what this means, Rumple arrives in time, satisfied to see that Belle has done the translating that he was unable to. Belle realizes that Rumple knew she would do this, and he admits to have even planned for it. Rumple then takes the baby from Belle and locks her in the tower, setting out to fulfill whatever his intentions are for the child. Belle struggles to break free all the while, but soon enough the Blue Fairy comes to her rescue. She frees Belle and sends her after Rumple, who is seen using the baby to summon the Black Fairy, as she takes babies. As it turns out, the Black Fairy is really Rumplestiltskin's mother, and he was wishing to confront her. This doesn't go how Rumple intended, and the Black Fairy leaves without answering any of the Dark One's questions. Though defeated, Rumple allows Belle to return the baby to its parents: Jack and Jill. ("Changelings")

Belle EL 411
The Queens of Darkness use Belle for ransom. ("Heroes and Villains")

Thinking Rumple is away, Belle uses this time to search through his castle instead of cleaning it. He returns home a few days early, however, and discovers this. Belle argues that he has so many items from all over the world that he never talks about, and all she has ever wanted to do herself was travel the world herself. When trying to get him to open up to her, he transports her outside to do the laundry, something that she isn't too happy about. When talking to herself, something catches her site - a little dalmatian puppy. As she begins following it into the woods, she is suddenly kidnapped by an unknown person. Later, when Rumple goes to check on his maid, he sees she has vanished. A raven flies over the castle, dropping off a magical sand dollar for Rumple, containing a video message of Belle who is being held captive in exchange for the gauntlet from Camelot. Knowing who is behind this, Rumple tracks down the culprit, Maleficent, who is accompanied by none other than Cruella De Vil and the Sea Witch, Ursula. Rumple tries choking Maleficent in order to regain his maid, but Ursula uses her tentacles to slowly suffocate Belle until the Dark One gives in, tossing the gauntlet over and freeing Maleficent. He warns them that that was a risky move, but Ursula states it was worth it, as they have spent too long living in a world where villains never win. Cruella reveals that the gauntlet will reveal their enemies weaknesses and they will be the victors. Ursula then shoves Belle over to the Dark One, and she along with her two allies disappear. Belle questions why Rumple would do such a thing, but he states it doesn't matter as they will not be able to harm her. Belle asks why he cares about her, to which Rumple awkwardly pushes her away, claiming he doesn't, but if anyone is going to crush her heart it's going to be him. Later on, Rumple returns to the evil trio, taking back his gauntlet. ("Heroes and Villains")

Belle EL 311
Rumple does not believe his ending will be a happy one. ("Going Home")

When Belle goes into town to pick up supplies for Rumple, she finds her old friend Samuel who has just been injured by an enchanted weapon. She brings him back to Rumple's castle to tend to his wound, and he confesses that his true intentions were to rescue her from the Dark One by trapping him in Pandora's Box, claiming that Maurice sent him. However, she soon discovers that he was truly after the Dark One's dagger, and so she leads him out of the castle, and Rumple punishes him by condemning him to a swamp, while keeping Pandora's Box for himself. ("Out of the Past") In his castle's library, Rumple lights a candle for Baelfire's birthday, stating that it's been too many years to count, but he hasn't stopped counting. Belle soon walks in but is told to go away by her master, who snuffs out the candle. She apologizes, not having realized that he was carrying out a remembrance, and Rumple explains that it's his son's birthday. Belle wonders how old he would be now, but Rumple tells her that he's not dead, he's just "lost". She doesn't understand what this means and asks how this came to be, and Rumple tells her that it was due to his cowardice. She assures him that it's not too late for him to redeem himself, but Rumplestiltskin denies this, stating that his ending will not be a happy one. ("Going Home")

Belle EL 112 02
Can Belle's kiss of true love cure her darkened Beast? ("Skin Deep")

While trying to pull down his curtains for springtime, Belle wonders why Rumple spins so much, and he explains that it helps him forget. She also wonders why all his mirrors are covered up and concludes that he thinks he's uglier than he is, but thinks he will benefit from letting some light in. However, the curtains soon tear and she falls... into his arms. An awkward yet romantic moment ensues. The maid and her employer grow closer as time goes on and she eventually reveals that she discovered one of Baelfire's shawls while looking around the castle, wondering if he had a son. He admits that he did, allowing her to learn something about him as the same time that he learns something about her: that the reason she agreed to go away with him is because she always dreamed of being a hero, and she saw it as her opportunity. This makes Rumple feel sorry for her as he's depriving her of seeing the world, and at the point that she starts talking about her superficial betrothed Gaston, he shows up at the door in order to defeat the Dark One - only for the Dark One to turn him to a rose with magic and give him to Belle as a present. Finally he agrees to tell her all about his son if she goes to town and fetches him some straw; she wonders if he trusts her to return, and he explains he expects to never see her again, leading her to realize that he's setting her free. However, she returns after a chat with the Evil Queen, now believing that she can break Rumple's curse with a kiss of true love. It almost works and Rumple starts turning back into the man he once was... but then he pulls back, knowing Belle has been tampered with by Regina, and throws her back into her old dungeon room. Later he lets her go, deciding that his power means more to him than she does, but she disagrees, saying that now he's made his choice and he's going to regret it forever. All he'll have is an empty heart and a chipped cup. She leaves. ("Skin Deep")

Dreamy tells her that Nova, the fairy he is in love with, probably doesn't even love him back, for all she talked about was meeting with him at the top of a hill to watch the fireflies. Belle chuckles and tells him that her intention was not to focus on the fireflies, but to ask him to come and be with her at that spot. Within hours she finds the beast's cave but is attacked, however, Mulan, who was hunting the beast, scares it away. At the village being tormented by the Yaoguai, Belle is attacked by the companions she tricked, but Mulan saves her yet again. The two women team up to slay the beast. Belle enters the village which is under attack and she fights off the beast, stopping it when she pours water onto its fiery mane. The beast writes in the ground that he needs help, so Belle, using her wit and fairy dust Dreamy gave her, turns the beast back into a man, Prince Phillip. Once this task is complete, Rumple uses the magically powerful object to undo Pan's spell and put Henry back into his own body. Belle and the others soon find Henry, who hands over the scroll, but it's not long before it's stolen by Pan, who uses his magic to freeze everyone on Main Street. He plans on killing Belle and Baelfire, as they are the two his son loves most, but before he can do so, Rumple exits his shop, now powerless due to the anti-magic leather cuff on his wrist, and approaches his father. He says goodbye to his son and true love, telling the latter that she made him stronger, and Belle begins to tear up as Rumple summons his shadow and reunites with his magical dagger, using it to stab Pan in the back. However, Rumple replies by saying that he's a villain, and villains don't get happy endings. A magical glow then ensues from the stab wound, consuming them both, and soon enough, there is nothing left but the curse scroll, both of them now dead. Suddenly, a face forms out of the fire, and the mysterious being introduces itself as Lumière, explaining that he was trapped in this form by Rumplestiltskin when he was unable to uphold his end of a deal and can only come out when his candles are lit. He helps the pair of them, when they say Rumple will be able to reverse what was done to him, by showing them a large book in which a key is kept: the key to the Vault of the Dark One, where the very first Dark One was made. They find this vault within a snowy clearing and light up Lumière once they do. When they dare to question his knowledge, he argues that he's been kept up in that library for over two hundred years, despite Belle knowing that it was built not long before Regina's curse was cast. This leads the candelabra to admit that the Wicked Witch was in fact the one to imprison him so that Neal and Belle would resurrect Rumple and she would be able to control him, but Neal simply takes this to mean that it can be done, despite Belle protesting that it must be the wrong thing to do. Deciding that the cost is worth it, Neal places the key into the center of the vault and burns his hand as he does so, causing it to open and for Rumple to form from the inky blackness. Suddenly, Neal collapses and the Wicked Witch arrives on the scene, explaining to them that a life must be exchanged in order for Rumple's to be saved, ergo Neal is dying so that his father may live. It is realized that the missing ingredient is Snow's unborn child and that the reason Zelena wants to go back in time is to kill Queen Eva, Snow's mother, who is responsible for her being given away, thus making it so Snow, Emma, Henry and Regina were never born. ("Bleeding Through")

Belle 320
Belle joyfully accepts Rumple's marriage proposal. ("Kansas")

With Mary Margaret now in labor with her son, multiple townspeople, including Belle, head to the hospital in order to secure the premises against the Wicked Witch. However, as the baby is born, Zelena enters easily, with Rumple not far behind her. When she sees her coming, Belle stands up to the witch, despite Rumple warning her against it. Belle tells Zelena that she's punished Rumple enough, but Zelena replies that she's not nearly finished, before using her magic to knock Belle out. Rumple lowers her to the ground but is unable to help her because the witch makes him follow her, succeeding in stealing the baby. After Zelena is defeated and locked by Regina, the Queen gives Belle Rumple's dagger because she's the only one who can be trusted not to abuse its power. Belle returns to the shop, where Gold is waiting, and the two of them joyously reunite. She gives him his dagger, which he states has now become a symbol of trust, going on to offer it to her as a marriage proposal. Belle accepts, taking the dagger and kissing her new fiancé after making him promise not to claim vengeance on Zelena, believing him to be better than that. However, it's revealed that Rumple actually gave Belle a fake dagger and kept the real one for himself, which he uses to stab the Wicked Witch, killing her. The magic from Zelena's stolen pendant then leaks across town, activating her previously failed time travel spell and opening a portal to the past. ("Kansas")

Belle 321
Emma and Hook meet Belle of the distant past. ("Snow Drifts")

Belle becomes paranoid carrying Rumple's dagger wherever she goes, not knowing it's a fake, but Rumple assures her that she's perfectly safe, reminding her that it's a symbol of their trust for one another and urging her to focus her thoughts on the forthcoming wedding. They then attend the coronation at Granny's Diner together but the whole town becomes distracted when it's seen that Zelena's time portal has opened. Belle heads to the sheriff's station with a group of other people to find out what happened, but Rumple alters the CCTV footage with his magic to make it look as though Zelena killed herself, which is then what activated the portal. Hook and Emma then inadvertently fall down said portal and end up in the Enchanted Forest of the past, and go to Rumplestiltskin to see if he can help get them back to the future. When in his Dark Castle, Belle walks in to ask her master if there's any more cleaning to be done, and Emma is awed to see a past version of her. Belle, not having realized Rumple had company, asks the blonde if they know each other, but Rumple interrupts, telling his maid to go read a book, or whatever it is she does, and come back later for instructions. She points out that he could talk to her more politely, and he points out in turn that he could turn her into a toad; she leaves, and Emma remarks that it's hard to believe that the two of them fall for each other. Rumple remains skeptical when this prediction is made. ("Snow Drifts")

Belle 322
Belle and Rumple finally tie the knot. ("There's No Place Like Home")

Emma and Hook manage to return to Storybrooke in the present day and make it back to the coronation, where it's announced that Snow and Charming's baby is called Prince Neal. That night, Belle dresses for her wedding and is given away by her father, Maurice, who she's decided to forgive for what he's done in the past. Rumple stands by the well with Archie, who's been ordained as a minister, and the conscience goes on to officiate the ceremony once the bride is given away. They make their vows to one another; Belle says that, where it may seem she's spent her life losing Rumple, she's actually spent her life finding him, whilst he says that, when they met, he was unloved and unloving, but she managed to change that. He wonders why she continues to love him, and she finishes by saying that, sometimes, the best books have the dustiest jackets, and sometimes, the best cups are chipped. The two of them kiss, thus officially making them husband and wife. ("There's No Place Like Home")

Season 4

Deep down, you know what kind of beast you're dealing with.
Trolden Glass
Belle 401
A tale as old as time, a song as old as rhyme... ("A Tale of Two Sisters")

Following the wedding, Belle makes plans for her and Rumple's honeymoon. While on their way, they stop by Neal's grave site. Belle leaves Rumple alone to speak with his recently departed son, who he confesses to switching out the dagger. Gold tells his son that he wants to make things right, however, and switch them back, truly giving Belle control over the Dark One. The couple soon arrive at a vacant mansion, which hasn't been claimed since the Storybrooke residents returned from the Enchanted Forest. Belle reveals that she wishes to use the abandoned home as their honeymoon suite. As she goes on about the scenic ocean view and such, Rumple magically freezes her in place so he can switch out the fake dagger with the real one. After unfreezing her, Belle leads Rumple into a huge ballroom in order to have their first dance as husband and wife. Gold transforms their clothes, adds lighting, and a playing gramophone as they waltz. Later on, after Belle has fallen asleep, Rumple borrows the real dagger and moves it in a circular motion over the cylinder object. The device manifests into a hat and gives off a purplish-pink glow at its core. ("A Tale of Two Sisters")

Belle 402
Belle and Rumple's honeymoon comes to an end. ("White Out")

Elsa, the Ice Queen, decides that no one is leaving town until she finds her sister, Anna, and so she erects an ice wall around the perimeter of Storybrooke in order to stop people from being able to escape. Events transpire and Emma becomes trapped in an ice cave with Elsa, slowly freezing to death. Charming and Hook decide to pay a little visit to Mr. Gold, who's standing behind the counter of his shop with Belle, because they know that this is where Elsa stole Anna's necklace from and they think he might be able to help. They wonder if he would be able to melt the ice wall, but he retorts that he wouldn't be able to do so without killing Emma. When David sees the necklace's inventory photograph, he recognizes it and has the idea to visit Bo Peep and steal her magical crook, going on to use it to confirm that Anna is alive after he goads Elsa into melting the ice herself. It soon becomes evident that someone with Elsa's powers is keeping the ice wall up, for Elsa herself is unable to melt it. ("White Out")

403 03
Rumple continues to fool Belle with the fake dagger. ("Rocky Road")

Emma and Hook stop by Mr. Gold Pawnbroker & Antiquities Dealer with Elsa in order to question Gold of any knowledge he has of the Ice Queen. Gold swears he has never seen Elsa before, but Emma reminds him that they found her urn in his vault back in the Enchanted Forest. Gold tells Emma that if she wants to know how Elsa ended up there then to ask her herself. Elsa doesn't remember, however, having lost some of her memories. Gold finally tells the trio if they need proof he is not lying, then he'll have Belle use the dagger to command the truth. They accept this, but Belle refuses, telling her new husband that he doesn't have to do this. "No, no, Ms. Swan wants proof, and I'm happy to cooperate," Gold insists. Belle uses the dagger, commanding the truth. Gold professes, once more, that he did not know Elsa was trapped inside the urn, and that he doesn't know her or Anna; this satisfies Emma's doubts. However, Hook later returns to the pawnshop, confronting Gold, knowing that Belle has a fake dagger. He threatens to tell Belle the truth if the Dark One does not agree to help Elsa find the true culprit who cursed Marian. Gold finally cooperates, restoring a strand of Marian's hair to its original magical form - snowflakes - sending Hook and Elsa on their way to find the Snow Queen. ("Rocky Road")

Belle 404
Belle reports to Emma a passed out thief in her library. ("The Apprentice")

Wanting to make his first date with Emma as perfect as he possibly can, Hook makes another deal with Gold: the Dark One will reattach the pirate's cut off hand in exchange for his silence about Gold giving Belle a fake dagger. The Dark One begrudgingly agrees to these terms, but warns Hook ahead of time that this hand is who he once was, not who he is now. The pirate thinks Rumple is lying, however, and goes out on his date. The couple soon run into Will Scarlet, who manages to get away. Later in the night, when walking home from Emma's apartment, Hook runs into a drunken Will who tries breaking into Belle's library. Hook uncontrollably punches him in the face, but once realizing what he has done, he makes Will promise to never speak of this, and leaves. The following morning, Belle returns to her library where she finds a passed out Will. She calls Emma, who promptly arrests the thief. Later at the station, she confronts him about a book, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and a drawing of the Red Queen she found on him. Will lies, claiming that they don't mean anything. ("The Apprentice")

Belle 405
Mary Margaret and David have Belle babysit Neal. ("Breaking Glass")

Belle cradles and comforts baby Neal in her arms over at Mary Margaret's apartment as she and David watch. David points out that Belle's a natural and reminds his wife that she has all the emergency numbers so, if anything happens, Neal will be okay. Mary Margaret argues that she's not worried about emergency numbers; she's worried about leaving him at all, pointing out that, between the Dark Curse and the Wicked Witch, they don't exactly have the best track record with their babies. As Belle continues smiling down at the littlest Charming, David assures his wife that their child will be fine, adding that they need this time away, especially her. "So what do you say? You ready for our evening stroll?" he asks, and the nervous mother nods hesitantly. ("Breaking Glass")

Belle 406
Belle knows what kind of beast she's dealing with. ("Family Business")

Belle and Gold are summoned to the sheriff's station with everyone else where they learn that Emma, despite having no memories of such a thing, used to be the Snow Queen's foster daughter. When they all search the woods, Belle and Elsa stay behind and do research at the library instead. Once making sure Elsa doesn't give up hope of finding Anna, Belle returns to the pawn shop were she begs Rumple to accompany her to the Snow Queen's lair as she believes her to possess a hat that can steal magic from sorcerers - unaware that Rumple himself possesses it. When he refuses, she uses her fake dagger to try and control him, and Gold pretends to be under her thrall as he leads her to the lair and gets told to keep watch outside. Belle is taunted by her own reflection in the Snow Queen's evil mirror and it tells her that the dagger is a fake, which she begins to believe when Rumple comes running inside in spite of her orders. Once he's teleported them both back to the shop, he points out that she told him to keep watch, not stay outside, and explains that he heard the Snow Queen coming, so they had to leave. She apologizes for having doubted him and goes on to admit that she knows Anna and was in fact the reason why the Snow Queen captured her so long ago. As Belle admits this to the others, Gold pays the Snow Queen a visit and reveals that he's in possession of the sorcerer's hat, meaning that he has leverage over her. ("Family Business")

Belle 407
The Snow Queen has successfully fooled the heroes. ("The Snow Queen")

Belle's research finally pays off when she finds a spell that can help Emma capture the Snow Queen. When Emma does so, she brings Ingrid to the station for questioning, whereas Belle hurries to the clock tower where she warns David, Hook, and Elsa, who are studying the mirror previously placed by the Snow Queen, to not look into its reflection or it will brainwash them. However, when examining it closer, Belle realizes it is not the same mirror she saw in the Snow Queen's lair. Realizing they've been duped, the group head to the police station, but are too late as it has been frozen shut by Ingrid. They soon make their way to the pawn shop to request Rumple's assistance, who only agrees when not wanting to say no to his wife. The group, who are joined by Mary Margaret and Henry, rush back to the station as an explosion tears a hole in the building. Emma, whose powers are going out of control, exclaims that the Snow Queen got away, but she herself caused the damage of the station. Her powers continue to take over, causing her to injure David. When realizing what she has done, the savior flees, driving off in her car. Meanwhile, a freed Ingrid meets up with Rumple back at his shop. They make a deal to where she can help the Dark One cleave the dagger's control over him for good and make it so he can leave Storybrooke for good and retain his power and his wife (in short, have what every villain wants: everything), in exchange for the three ribbons she and her sisters once traded him. Rumple agrees to these terms, and Ingrid whispers the information into his ear. ("The Snow Queen") Emma runs away as her magic gets further out of hand, so Belle spends the night watching over Neal as the Charmings search for their daughter, information that later gets relayed to Rumple. Refusing to assist the Dark One any longer, Hook leaves a voicemail on Emma's phone where he exposes Rumple's betrayal of Belle, but the message is later erased before she can ever hear it. As Rumple talks to Emma about sacrificing her magic, he admits that Belle knows, for better or worse, he's always a man who will choose power. ("Smash the Mirror")

Belle 409
Belle awaits the casting of the Spell of Shattered Sight. ("Fall")

As the Spell of Shattered Sight nears, Rumple meets up with the Snow Queen, agreeing to stay out of her way permanently so long as he can leave Storybrooke with Belle and Henry. She allows him this, and thus he moves forward with his own plans. Meanwhile, Emma and Elsa learn from Belle that they could defeat the Snow Queen's impending curse with a strand of hair from someone who has been affected by the same spell once before, and use it to make a counter spell, thus leading the two blondes on a search to find Anna. Belle later joins the Blue Fairy and the other nuns at Granny's Diner to help create the counter spell whist Emma and Elsa use a locator spell to find Anna. However, Rumple, with Hook's reluctant assistance, plots to trap all of the fairies in the hat, obtaining their magic. Before he can do so though, he must get Belle out of the diner, so he stops by, asking for help at the pawn shop. She insists on staying, however, since the counter spell is very important, and he relents by deciding to keep her company until the business is finished. She later calls David, letting him know that the fairies can perform the counter spell with just the necklace. Elsa, determined to find her sister, dupes them by handing over a pouch full of rocks and takes the real necklace to continue tracking Anna, which she is successful in. Belle leaves the fairies to the spell, but once exiting the diner, it is unknown to her that Hook uses the hat to trap them all inside. Back at the pawn shop, Rumple seals Belle inside in order to protect her from others when the curse hits, which it soon does. ("Fall")

Belle 410
A creative way to protect Belle from Ingrid's curse. ("Shattered Sight")

The Spell of Shattered Sight has been enacted, and everyone's darkest sides begin surfacing. The townspeople begin tearing each other apart, as Emma, Elsa, and Anna go after the Snow Queen to defeat her once and for all. Meanwhile, Rumple continues getting ready to leave town. He sends Hook out to gather Henry and bring him to the town line that evening where he will bring Belle and the three will leave as a family. When being accused of being a villain, the Dark One tells the pirate that he intends on wiping away Belle and Henry's memories of this day, and when they wake up the following morning in New York, he will lie, saying that the curse destroyed Storybrooke and he tried to save as many people possible, making him appear to be a hero. Ingrid's curse is soon deactivated, however, when Anna shows her Gerda's letter written before the ship sunk. The Snow Queen sacrifices herself to save the townspeople and make her "sisters" happy. Once all is well again, Rumple is seen back at the pawn shop, watching a sleeping Belle. Hook joins him where he tells the pirate that Ingrid's plan may have failed, but his won't. ("Shattered Sight")

Belle 411
Beauty says farewell to the beast at long last. ("Heroes and Villains")

Belle awakens the following morning to breakfast in bed, glad to see the Spell of Shattered Sight didn't destroy the town. Rumple reveals that he intends on taking her out of town on a honeymoon to New York, while in reality he plans on leaving the town with her and never returning, giving her the gift she's always wanted - to see the world. Belle is thrilled by the news and is told to get her bags packed. Later on, she is visited by Henry at the pawn shop who has begun referring to her as "grandma", something Belle quickly puts an end to. When asked to help look for another suitcase, Henry accidentally knocks over a bunch of the Dark One's possessions, one being the gauntlet, an item Belle thought was given up long ago. Meanwhile, Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff prepare to leave for Arendelle after receiving help from Rumple to find a portal home. It isn't till just before they're leaving that Anna learns it is none other than the Dark One who has been helping them, and she reveals of their history. Emma, remembering Rumple claiming to have never even heard of the royal ginger, realizes that the sorcerer has been playing them the whole time, and she, along with the others head for the clock tower where they catch Rumple as he is performing the spell to cleave him from the dagger. Before he can succeed, however, Belle stops him by taking control over the real dagger. She commands him to transport them to the town line where they can have a chat alone. There, she confronts him about finding the gauntlet and how it made her realize all the signs she had been seeing were correct - he would never give up power for her, he never has and he never will. Rumple tries to explain himself, but Belle won't hear of it, instead she continues with how he once told her the gauntlet could lead to someone's weaknesses, and that's exactly what it did, leading her to the real dagger. She exclaims that his real true love is his power. Rumple tries to argue this, but Belle won't hear much more of it. She then uses the dagger, commanding him to cross the town line, thus making it impossible for him to ever re-enter Storybrooke, leaving him utterly heartbroken. ("Heroes and Villains")

Belle 412
Despite her heartbreak, Belle stays strong. ("Darkness on the Edge of Town")

Six weeks have passed, and everyone starts getting use to everything being normal in Storybrooke. At the town's library, Belle and Hook have spent their time doing countless research on how to release the fairies Rumple had imprisoned in the Sorcerer's hat. The pirate starts to grow frustrated since it's been taking so long, Belle assures her new friend that they have to do a spell to release the fairies, as well as the apprentice, but first she must consult with outsiders, via email, to translate it. The two then discuss their regrets about letting the Dark One trick them both, using Belle's love for him, and Hook's love for Emma as a weapon. Despite all of this, however, Hook states that Rumple did in-fact love her. As her eyes start filling with tears, Belle remarks that she hopes he found what he was looking for. She later receives an email from what she thinks is an Oxford professor, but is actually Rumple, who gives her the spell translation, and she immediately gives it to Emma and Regina; the latter then uses the dagger to perform the spell on the hat, thus freeing all the fairies, but what they don't all notice, however, is that the Chernabog is released as well. A celebration is then held at Granny's Diner to celebrate the fairies return, which Belle attends, and there the Chernabog makes itself known to the townspeople. Once it's stunned by Emma and Regina, Belle heads back to the library to do research on the creature, but eventually, with knowledge from Ursula and Cruella De Vil, the creature is led across the town line where it fades out of existence, and the two new town residents also allow Rumple passage back in, unbeknownst to everyone else. ("Darkness on the Edge of Town")

Belle 413
And she finds new company in the form of Will Scarlet. ("Unforgiven")

Having heard of Ursula and Cruella's arrival in town, Belle has a transformation potion prepared, which she threatens to use on the two women the moment they enter the pawn shop, stating if they try anything then they'll be "hopping out as toads." As they give congratulations about banishing Rumplestiltskin, they drop hints about his sad circumstances in New York, and tease her about whether she is satisfied with her true love's suffering. As Belle states she'd never be pleased with someone else's misery, Ursula uses her tentacle to reach into the back room, without the shopkeeper noticing, and steal a wooden box containing Maleficent's totem. Belle finally questions if they're going to actually buy anything, or if they came to just be cruel, so Cruella asks her to find something fashionable to adorn her car hood. The two women soon leave, and once receiving a call from Emma and David regarding Ursula and Cruella's suspicious behavior, she checks and realizes the wooden box is missing. That night, Rumple secretly watches Belle working in the pawn shop. However, he becomes heartbroken by the site of seeing her embraced with a kiss by her lover: Will Scarlet. ("Unforgiven")

Belle 414
Rumple tricks Belle into returning the dagger. ("Enter the Dragon")

After finding a drawing with a post-it note reading "Author?" on it amongst August's belongings, Henry examines it at the pawn shop, where he discusses with Belle that he believes there to be more clues around the shop. Later on at Granny's Diner, Belle has a meal with her new beau, Will Scarlet, where she exclaims he must try the cake. Hook then joins them, and he and Will immediately get off on the wrong foot, presumably due to their previous encounters. Hook asks to speak with Belle alone for a moment where he discusses the Queens of Darkness possibly trying to go after the dagger so they have power over Rumplestiltskin. Belle states she has it hidden away, but Hook suggests they meet up and hide it elsewhere, as the trio of villainesses may have learned a bit about where she could have put it. During the night, the two meet in the woods, but before handing the dagger over, Belle worries Rumple may have gotten back into town, and if so then the dagger is her only protection. Hook suggests she use it and command the Dark One to come to her since if he's in town he'll be forced to obey. She does so, but nothing happens. She proceeds to hand Hook the dagger and leaves, but once gone, it becomes apparent Rumple was disguised as Hook all along. He later turns back into Hook and visits Belle at the pawn shop where he makes her promise to never speak of this encounter to anyone or each other again, which she does. He then questions her new relationship with Will, and once learning she is currently happy with him, he leaves, heartbroken once more. ("Enter the Dragon")

Belle 415
Will's knowledge on Wonderland is sought out. ("Poor Unfortunate Soul")

With Regina infiltrating the Queens of Darkness' plans, she comes to learn that Rumplestiltskin is back in Storybrooke, and leading the three villainesses.  Belle is soon warned at the pawn shop, and Emma asks her to hand the dagger over so they can stop the Dark One before it's too late. However, Belle reveals she gave it to Hook to hide it the night before, only for them to all come to realize Rumple tricked Belle once again by turning into Hook and ultimately regaining his power. This crushes Belle most of all due to the fact that even when she thought her husband could no longer deceive her, he found a way. Later, Hook makes a deal with Ursula that if he's able to return her her happy ending, she will tell him of Rumple's plan. This, however, involves retrieving the Jolly Roger from the Enchanted Forest, which the Sea Witch is able to do, but it has now been shrunken and put inside a bottle by Elsa as punishment for Black Beard's crimes. Hook and Ursula stop by the pawn shop where Belle is with Will, and after clarifying to Belle that Will would already be dead if it was Rumple is disguise again, Hook goes to ask Will for helping in resizing his ship. He succeeds, and in the end Ursula gets back her singing voice and reunites with her father, thus getting her happy ending. ("Poor Unfortunate Soul")

Belle 416
Rumple promises to come back for Belle, if he can. ("Best Laid Plans")

Plotting to steal the storybook page of the door which the Author is hidden behind, Maleficent puts the entire town of Storybrooke under a sleeping curse so she and her allies have no problems with the heroes. Due to being in town at the time, Belle goes unconscious, via the curse's effects. When Regina, who is still undercover, agrees to get the page from Henry, the Dark One, Rumplestiltskin, sends Maleficent and Cruella to follow her and make sure she gets the job done. Meanwhile, Rumple goes to the pawn shop where an unconscious Belle lies on the ground. After picking her up and placing her on a bed, the Dark One tells his sleeping beauty of a true love that, as she well knows, all magic comes with a price, and he is in so much debt that he can never be clear of it - not unless he changes the rules. He goes to say that something else is changing as well, however, so if he is to change the rules then he must do so quickly. Hearing Cruella's car pull up, Rumple kisses Belle on the hand, stating that he will come back for her if he can. He then leaves, rejoining the other villains. ("Best Laid Plans")

Belle 418
Belle is used as leverage against Rumple. ("Sympathy for the De Vil")

Following the revelation of Zelena being alive and well, and having been posing as Marian, also having formed an alliance with Rumple, and has agreed to kill Robin Hood with just one phone call, Regina goes to Belle, who wonders how she may be able to help the situation. Belle is next seen at the Storybrooke well, summoning her husband, who arrives in a moment's notice. She asks that, for once in her life, she be given the truth by him. Rumple reveals that due to centuries of dark deeds, he is coming close to losing the ability to love all together, and that the process can only be reversed by one person: the Author. Belle tells her husband that she understands, and the two embrace in a kiss, but Belle does the unthinkable and tells the man she's suppose to love that the only problem is is that Will is a better kisser. She begins hurling hateful comments, shocking the Dark One, who exclaims that this isn't like her. Regina then makes herself known though, revealing to be in control of Belle's heart. Once telling Belle to leave and forget everything that has just happened, Regina blackmails Rumple into not interfering with her plans of rescuing Robin, threatening to kill Belle if he does so. ("Sympathy for the De Vil")

Belle 419
Who truly holds Belle's heart? ("Lily")

Following a mini-funeral Rumple threw for Cruella, who was recently murdered by Emma as a part of Rumple's plan to turn the Savior dark, the Dark One and Isaac converse in the former's car that remains parked on the streets of Storybrooke. Rumple notices Belle walking along the sidewalk with Will, and so he decides he has some certain business to attend to. Later at the pawn shop, Belle leaves Will alone to go babysit Neal, per Mary Margaret and David's request, but moments later Will is confronted by Rumple for his relations with the Dark One's wife, but he also reveals that Regina has stolen Belle's heart to use her as leverage, and he wants Will to steal it back. Once succeeding in doing so, breaking into the mayoral office while Rumple distracts Maleficent, who has been guarding it, Will returns it to Belle, who is alarmed to see she didn't have it, and surprised to learn Regina stole it from her, seeing as how Regina made her forget everything. Rumple then reveals himself; he properly apologizes to Belle for all he's done, and states that even though he has helped return her heart, he expects Will to help guard it, seeing as how he is unworthy. Will takes Belle's hand as Rumple exits the shop, but once he's gone, she lets go of it, as she is beginning to have second thoughts about both Rumple and Will. ("Lily")

Belle 422
Belle lives out her re-written happy ending. ("Operation Mongoose, Part 2")

Once obtaining the magical ink needed to re-write the storybook, the Author, Isaac, grants Rumple's wish and re-writes his story, giving him and all the other villains happy endings. In this new version of the story, everyone is back in the Enchanted Forest, Rumple now serves as a kind-hearted knight, is back together with Belle, and together, the Charming's son, Prince Neal, is raised as their own. The couple enjoy their "happy ending," but this is all shattered when Isaac warns Rumple of Henry, who has gotten Emma and Regina together, and could potentially revert everything the Author has written. Rumple discusses this with Belle, without giving too many details, of course, but his true love argues that he is a good man and would always do whats right. Rumple ends up trying to defeat the heroes by stopping them from crashing Robin Hood and Zelena's upcoming wedding, but he fails, and everything is reverted back, and they all end up back in Storybrooke. Belle hurries to the pawn shop to stop Rumple from harming anyone else, but when he drops to the ground, beginning to die, they end up having a heartfelt talk about how even though Belle was all he truly wanted, he simply couldn't believe it was enough. Belle confesses that she doesn't love Will, but instead her husband, but Rumple ends up passing out, as his heart is nearly completely darkened. Belle rushes to Granny's Diner for help, and returns to a dying Rumple with Emma, Hook, the Charmings, and the Apprentice, who casts a spell on Rumple to remove the Dark One powers, and implant them in the Sorcerer's hat. Once doing so, the darkness is stripped from Rumple's heart, turning it a white color, and the Apprentice uses a form of magic to preserve him, thus giving them time to find a way to truly cure Rumple. However, the hat is unable to control the darkness, and once it escapes, Emma ends up absorbing it in order to stop it from going after Regina, making her the new Dark One. Once the process is complete, Emma disappears in a puff of smoke, and all that remains is the dagger that now reads "Emma Swan." ("Operation Mongoose, Part 2")

Season 5

Belle, you should go and help them with Emma. You're resourceful. They could use you even if they don't know it yet.
Mother Superior
Belle 501 01
Blue bestows Belle the gift of a film reference. ("The Dark Swan")

Belle comes to learn of recent events, with Emma becoming the new Dark One and all. She remains present as the Apprentice gifts the heroes with a wand, given to him by Merlin (the Sorcerer) so they may rescue Emma; he dies shortly after. When alone, Belle tends to a now comatose Rumple, and when ushered by Mother Superior to help out the heroes, she argues she'd rather be by her beloved's side in case he passes. The Blue Fairy comes up with a solution by magicking up an enchanted rose, going on to tell that as long as petals remain on the flower, Rumple still lives. Belle is present with the rest of the group when confronting Zelena, who has escaped from her cell at the hospital, and is now using Robin Hood as leverage to obtain the Apprentice's wand so she may travel back to Oz. Regina tricks her wicked sister though, having her create a twister as portal, but changing its course from Oz to Camelot. Belle and the others then head for the diner, which is swooped up and sent to Emma's location. She and the others soon reunite with Emma, but are quickly met by King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, thus being welcomed into Camelot, for their arrival had been prophesied long ago... ("The Dark Swan")

Before the Third Curse

Well, aren't you the clever one?
Belle 502 01
Belle asks Grumpy for a dance. ("The Price")

Belle and the others are welcomed into Camelot and told by King Arthur that the fact that their arrival was prophesied means that plenty of time was had to prepare a ball in their honor. That night everyone seems to be having fun - except Belle, that is, who laments by one of the ballroom's banisters with her enchanted rose rested on it. Some of the petals have fallen now, meaning that Rumple's life force is slipping away, and Leroy decides to approach her, asking if she knows what he thinks the rose represents: hope. This confuses her, for every petal that drops means her husband is closer to death, but Grumpy prefers to think that every petal which remains means her husband can still be saved, which succeeds in cheering her up. She asks if he'd like to dance, and he obliges. Things soon get out of hand when Sir Percival attacks Regina, who's been posing as the savior, and is subsequently killed by Charming in self defense. Belle confides in Snow, after her first ultrasound, about her fears of when her son is born. ("Dark Waters")

Belle waits in the hospital for her first ultrasound, alone, only to be found and joined by Snow. The princess expresses excitement when finding out what Belle is up to, but soon learns that Rumple wasn't even told about it. She understands why though, after everything he's put Belle through, but Belle is afraid that it's not as simple as that. If she can't allow Rumple to be apart of a moment as simple as an ultrasound, then what is she going to do after the baby gets here? Snow notes this to be a good question, but also points out that it's one that she won't have to answer for at least another two trimesters. Following the ultrasound, Belle finds Snow, who wonders what Belle's doctor said. The beauty confirms that everything is good an normal so far; however, it's noticed that Belle received two sonogram pictures - standard procedure - and Snow wonders if Belle plans to give one to Rumple. She states that she doesn't know if Rumple can ever repair what they once had; Snow wonders if she hopes he can, and Belle admits to not knowing, but that she hopes that at the very least Rumple and her son can. Later on, she chooses to slip an envelope with one of the sonogram pictures underneath the door of the pawn shop. ("Dark Waters")

Belle 607
Zelena lets Belle in on Rumple's evil plans for their son. ("Heartless")

When the Evil Queen sets out on a new plan, Belle is got in touch with by the heroes. As it turns out, Rumple gave the Queen waters from the River of Souls, which she plans on using on the entire town if the Charmings do not hand over their hearts. Belle has no luck researching ways to prevent this, but she agrees to continue looking. Later on she is present at the cemetery with the other Storybrooke citizens, and Zelena reveals to her that she doesn't have to worry, for Rumple made a deal with the Queen to protect her and her son. However, she further reveals that Rumple has entered into a sort of romance with the Evil Queen, as well as having made a deal for the Shears of Destiny, wanting to use them to change his and his son's fate. Belle later confronts Rumple about this, not caring about his relations with the Queen, just his plans with their son, that she is quickly to make clear that she forbids. She proceeds to go on about how the Dark One does feel love and that he could be a good man if he tried. Belle tells him that if he wants his son's love then to not take it but to be worthy of it. Rumple admits to be afraid of failing, but this still doesn't fly with Belle, who points out that that's worse than being evil because it just means he was too weak to be good. She then proceeds to leave. ("Heartless")

Belle 608
Rumple prevents Belle from getting away with their child, to her dismay. ("I'll Be Your Mirror")

Belle finds that Rumple has closed the pawn shop, keeping himself locked in there for days. Suspecting that he is planning something in order to go after their unborn son, she seeks out the help of Zelena to make a portal so she can escape back to the Enchanted Forest. The Wicked Witch isn't really up for this at first, but Belle gets through to her when pointing out they both know what it's like to care for someone who continually lets them down. However, because Zelena would need the Apprentice's wand to make Belle's wish come true, the two ladies seek out Aladdin to steal it from Rumple's shop. He's initially hesitant, but they're able to convince him, and sure enough he succeeds. Belle and Zelena return to the farmhouse where Zelena is about to ready a portal, only for Rumple to arrive and take the wand. Not only that though, he also slaps a magical tracking bracelet on Belle's wrist so that no matter where she goes he will always be able to find her. The beauty promises to still run away though, preventing Rumple from ever even laying eyes on their child, but he reminds her that he takes babies. It's then that Zelena diverts his attention to her, mocking him over his first son, but he is unable to harm her due to their old deal. The Dark One proceeds to leave, while Belle remains distraught. ("I'll Be Your Mirror")

Belle 609
Belle sends her newborn son away, hoping to give him his best chance at a good life. ("Changelings")

Rumple sends a message to Belle in the form of an aged nun that he plans to accelerate her pregnancy and steal away their son if she does not go back to him. As such, Emma and Hook work to protect her and find a way to stop Rumple. Squid ink is able to stall Rumple for a period of time, but he later gets free and corners Belle in the library. However, he does back down last minute, opting out of speeding the pregnancy. Belle rejoins Emma and Hook in the diner, but after having some camomile tea, her pregnancy is sped up anyway. She's taken to the convent to deliver her child, but during labor she goes unconscious where she once again encounters her son. The two meet on a swing set where he helps Belle realize the only way she can protect him. This leaves Belle heartbroken, and she wakes up to fully give birth to her son. Afterwards though, she calls Blue over where she asks that she be her son's fairy godmother. Blue agrees to do so, and Belle also makes the sacrifice of having Blue send her son - Gideon - far away so that Rumple cannot get to him. Rumple arrives just as Blue flees with Gideon. He wishes to know the name of his son, but Belle refuses, not wanting him to use it to find the boy. She says that he can do what he will with her, but nothing will make her confess. Rumple makes it clear that he'd never hurt Belle, but he will find their son. Later on, however, it's revealed that the Evil Queen sped up Belle's pregnancy, not Rumple, and she revels in knowing that Belle would never believe Rumple if he told her this. ("Changelings")

Belle 610
Gideon surprises his mother by returning as Emma's fated killer. ("Wish You Were Here")

Belle sits alone during the night, at a Storybrooke pond, possessing nothing but a teddy bear that she'd have given to her newborn son had she not been forced to send him away. Rumple soon joins her though, there to reveal that Gideon is gone. He tried using their hairs to track him down, but he was no where to be found. Belle proceeds to call the convent to speak to Mother Superior, but it turns out something has happened. They find her in a bed, injured, and learn that none other than Rumple's mother, the Black Fairy, was responsible for this. Back at the pawn shop, Belle and Rumple start to blame each other; however, Rumple confesses to having not dosed Belle with the magic to speed up her pregnancy. He couldn't. It's then that Belle starts to wonder what she and Rumple have done to each other, and what they have done to their son. Rumple tells his wife that they must work together before it's too late, going into detail about how his mother would lurk about some immensely dark realms, places where time runs differently and nothing makes sense. Belle is in near tears, worrying about what could have happened to their son, but it's not long before they are joined by someone else in the shop - someone in a hood. This someone proceeds to pull back said hood, revealing themself to be Gideon. He greets his shocked parents. ("Wish You Were Here")

Belle 611
Rumple and Belle agree to join together to save their darkened son. ("Tougher Than the Rest")

Belle and Rumple are both astonished by how Gideon is there before them, all grown up, and he explains how the Black Fairy raised him for a good 28 years. She tried to make Gideon evil but failed because in all those dark years he remembered Belle and would try to follow in her example. However, he is now there to kill Emma Swan in order to become the savior and defeat the Black Fairy once and for all. Belle proceeds to find David and Hook, hoping to prevent them from going after Gideon before she is able to speak to him. They agree to give Belle a chance, but promise to step in if things get out of control. The fight between Emma and Gideon soon comes to the forefront though, upon Emma's return from the Wish Realm, but Gideon freezes Belle and the others as this takes place. While Emma does one-up Gideon, he soon gets away, causing Belle and Rumple to go in their separate ways while Emma reunites with her family. The estranged couple later meets back up at the well where Rumple expresses how, despite his own ways, he does not wish for Gideon to turn out a villain like himself. As Belle chooses to make a wish in the well, she and Rumple come to agree that despite everything it's best that they work together to bring Gideon back to the light because otherwise war will come to Storybrooke. ("Tougher Than the Rest")

Belle 613
Belle still has hope she and Rumple can bring Gideon back to the light. ("Ill-Boding Patterns")

Belle and Blue meet up with Rumple in the woods, the three of them all having been out looking for Gideon. When Blue decides to continue looking on her own after tensions rise between herself and the Dark One, Rumple explains to Belle that he doesn't think they'll be finding their son there. Gideon has his heart set on fulfilling his destiny, and he cannot do that without the sword that Emma shattered when he last faced her. Rumple promises to find Gideon before he gets the chance, stating that Belle can trust him because he's already lost one son and he's not going to lose another. Belle later heads over to the pawn shop, however, and finds that Blue is unconscious, having been drained of her magic. Belle is horrified, stating that Rumple promised to prevent Gideon from doing anything he couldn't come back from, but then learns that it wasn't Gideon who committed this heinous act, but Rumple, for it was the only way he could prevent Gideon from doing it himself. Rumple tells Belle that they can return Blue's magic once their son is stopped; however, Gideon currently has the sword is now more powerful than ever. He just hopes there's enough time to stop him. Belle believes that they will though, because for once Rumple put their son first by darkening his own soul. If Rumple can make the right choice after all the wrong he's done, then that means there's hope for their son too; she proceeds to embrace her husband in a hug. ("Ill-Boding Patterns")

Belle 616
Gideon causes an arise in tension between the Golds and the Charmings. ("Mother's Little Helper")

Emma and Snow arrive at the pawn shop in order to discuss the recent chaos created by Gideon, and Belle begs Emma to not hurt him. She believes that if the Savior helps him defeat the Black Fairy then he'll be on the side of good, and Rumple puts in word the serious threat the Black Fairy could become if she were to make it to Storybrooke. Emma gives in and agrees to aid Gideon, but this only backfires when he leads her to a giant spider that attempts to kill her. Belle and Snow arrive at Merlin's mansion just after Rumple saves Emma's life, and Emma expresses to Belle that she knows the beauty wants to see the best in her son, but she's right: evil isn't born it's made, and that's exactly what the Black Fairy did to Gideon. This results in an argument between Emma and Rumple, the latter of which promises to do everything he must to protect his son if Emma is to cross him. The Savior and Snow proceed to leave, with Belle stating to Rumple that it's been a matter of days and Gideon is tearing them apart. Rumple believes there's hope in bring Gideon back though, despite Belle continuing to lose hope, as the Black Fairy isn't around anymore - they are, as his parents, and whatever damage she did is over. The couple hold hands, with Rumple promising this. ("Mother's Little Helper")

Belle meets her son's "mother", her mother-in-law. ("Awake")

Thanks to Gideon's portal, the Black Fairy finds herself in Storybrooke where she proceeds to head to the pawn shop for a reunion with Rumple. The Dark One realizes that Gideon's plot to kill Emma and become the Savior was all just a ruse to get his evil grandmother to town, but when Gideon defends the Black Fairy as being his mother, Belle emerges from the back room wondering what's going on. The Black Fairy formally introduces herself to Belle, but the beauty insists to Gideon that no matter what he's done to help her he can always come back to them. The Black Fairy doesn't believe that as she's convinced that when the darkness arrives Rumple will choose to alienate with her and they will be the family they were meant to. Later on, however, Rumple comes to realize that the Black Fairy has control over Gideon's heart but that he's found some way to get past her control and display heroistic tendencies. He leaves behind a single pixie flower for Emma and Snow, which Rumple points out to the Black Fairy is because Gideon has some of Belle in him - his real mother - and he will eventually be free of the Black Fairy's control. ("Awake")

Belle 618
Caring for Zelena's daughter makes Belle realize what she's missed out on with Gideon. ("Where Bluebirds Fly")

Belle is happy to learn that Gideon is merely being controlled by the Black Fairy rather than having become a full-fledged villain and now believes that it's possible that he can be saved. The co-parents deduct that because the comatose Mother Superior knew the Black Fairy before she was evil, she might have the answers they need in order to defeat her. Rumple leaves for the Sorcerer's mansion to see if there's anything there that can be helpful, but once he's gone Zelena arrives in need of Belle to babysit her daughter. Belle is happy to while Zelena sets off to handles some business of her own, but when Regina stops by and realizes Zelena left her daughter with Belle she realizes that means her wicked sister has gone after the Black Fairy herself. When things don't turn out well for herself, Zelena returns for baby Robin who Belle was happy to watch over, and then later returns again with Regina and Emma who are after Blue. While Belle admits to not being proud of keeping the comatose fairy in secret, the three other ladies believe they have a way to wake Mother Superior, in the form of a crystal. When Rumple is hesitant, Belle relays to him how today she's realized how much they've missed out of with Gideon and how she refuses to let that continue. As such, Emma uses the crystal, and Blue's restarts meaning that it's only a matter of time before she wakes up. ("Where Bluebirds Fly")

Belle 619
All is right, as Belle finally reunites with her son. ("The Black Fairy")

Waking Blue turns out to be harder than it seemed, and Belle is left to deal with a frustrated Rumple when things aren't going as fast as he would prefer. The two are soon called back into the pawn shop though when Blue finally does start to come to, but once revealing where the other piece of the fairy wand is located it's revealed that Snow and David are in fact the Black Fairy and Gideon. While Rumple's mother escapes with Blue, Gideon is secured in an anti-magic cuff and tied to a chair. Belle tries to convince him to share where the Black Fairy is keeping his heart, but he's unable to as she's made it to where he feels a certain pain should he resist her control again. Rumple comes up with a solution though, that being to travel and speak to him inside his dream realm. Because Belle trusts Rumple to do what's best for Gideon and their family, she is left to watch over a sleeping Rumple, Gideon and Emma as they go under. Upon waking up though, they're all met with the revelation that Rumple is in fact the Savior that is meant to go against the Black Fairy, not Emma. It's presumed that he does so as he returns with Gideon's heart, and the Gold family is finally reunited. Rumple makes a promise to Belle and Gideon that everything he does is for them and to keep them safe. ("The Black Fairy") As Emma and Hook's wedding approaches, Belle finds Snow's wedding dress in the back of the shop and gives it back to Snow for Emma to wear. ("The Song in Your Heart")

Belle 621
The Black Fairy's curse allows Belle to finally see the world... sort of. ("The Final Battle, Part 1")

As it turns out, Rumple didn't follow through in killing the Black Fairy, instead choosing to form an alliance with her and allow her to cast another Dark Curse. This time, Fiona reigns over Storybrooke as its mayor, with Emma now trapped in an asylum and made to no longer believe in magic. Rumple, meanwhile, is given a life with Gideon as pawnbrokers, as well as false memories of Belle having abandoned them when Gideon was a baby, leaving for the store and never coming home. It's the time of year where the anniversary falls of that event taking place, and Rumple starts to search through the pawn shop, eventually finding Belle's copy of Her Handsome Hero that she wrote a note to Gideon in when he was first born. Rumple approaches Gideon with this, suggesting that there's more to the story regarding Belle leaving them, but Gideon is unable to believe this; he insists that they don't need Belle to be happy. As such, Rumple goes to Fiona about re-opening the case of Belle's disappearance, and she gives to him forged photographs of Belle off seeing the world, just as she had always desired. She suggests Rumple move on from Belle and focus on Gideon, which Rumple is left to contemplate. ("The Final Battle, Part 1")

Belle 622
Belle and Rumple receive a "happy beginning" with their son, and each other. ("The Final Battle, Part 2")

Rumple, however, is not in fact fooled by this Dark Curse as Fiona had hoped he would be, something that Henry soon figures out when finding his grandfather toying with magic in the back of the shop. Rumple's only priority now is to find Belle, thus meaning he won't be helping Henry on his quest to save the world, and he uses a locator spell on Her Handsome Hero to track Belle down to a Storybrooke home. There, she's hiding inside, the new curse having put her completely out of her mind. She runs from Rumple in fear, not wanting to leave the house, and Rumple promises to make Fiona pay for what she did to Belle. He sees this through, killing Fiona thus breaking the Dark Curse, and Belle comes running back to the pawn shop when this is done, having regained her memories. She and Rumple conspire to get Gideon his heart back, contacting Henry for help, and it leads them to wandering through the mines beneath the town. Belle winds up tripping though, spraining her ankle, but insists Rumple carry on without her as it's a race against time. Rumple does so, but when doing the right thing he fails as Fiona's magic is too strong. He returns to Belle and the two tearfully embrace one another in a hug, thinking they've lost. It's not long though before they hear the cries of a child and turn to see Gideon having been restored to a baby, in a basket, waiting for them. Belle and Rumple rush to their son, recognizing this to be a fresh start, or as Belle puts it, a happy beginning, the Final Battle having been won. The couple wind up resuming their marriage as husband and wife, sharing a dance alone in the shop together, and go on to attend a dinner at Granny's Diner with the rest of the Charming family. Ten years pass and Rumple reveals to Belle that he's finally ready to pass on his Dark One powers so that he can live out a mortal life with her, proceeding to drop the dagger into a special river; however, the dagger magically returns, and Belle assures that they'll find another way. More years pass and Gideon is now 18, getting ready to leave home for an apprenticeship, and Rumple fears they've spent more time on getting rid of the dagger than they have raising their boy. Belle assures otherwise, and then reveals to her husband a place known as the Edge of Realms where Rumple's powers can be removed when the sun sets at its brightest. They go there and decide to build a life together, constructing a house from the ground up without the use of magic. The couple live happily there for years as Belle's age only increases while Rumple's stays the same. They watch as Gideon comes and goes, live a quiet life together, and enjoy picnics in their yard; however, as Belle's age increases, this means she has to sit down in a chair outside their home. It finally gets to a point where Belle becomes an elderly woman, and one day when stepping onto a stool to reach the window's curtains, she falls backwards. Rumple catches her, putting her on the sofa and wishing to use magic to bring back her youth. She declines this, and the truth comes out that Belle is the sun that must set before Rumple can free himself of the Dark One powers. Rumple is heartbroken to learn of Belle's lie, but she points out that he'd never agree to it had they known the truth, and she just wanted to live their lives together, which they did. Rumple starts to fear going on without Belle, but she recounts the story of how they came to be, assuring that he will find a way to break his curse and that he will see her again. This is a promise that she makes, just before closing her eyes and passing away. ("Beauty")

("Wake Up Call") Rumple sets up a shrine of Belle in a cave where people can communicate with the deceased, sharing to Belle how Gideon is doing well in his studies and that the two of them miss her deeply. It turns out that Dr. Facilier is also present, however, and so Rumple forces him to share what Belle wishes to tell him. The Dark One learns from his deceased wife that the Guardian must be pure of heart, something that can be learned by testing Alice, who he currently expects the Guardian to be. Belle ushers Rumple to hurry though, fearing that he will succumb to the darkness if he doesn't act fast, due to her no longer being at his side to help him. Alice is eventually proven to be the Guardian, absorbing the darkness from Rumple and into the dagger, but as Rumple is reminded of Belle's last words, of how he's a good man who will find his way back to her, he stops Alice from absorbing his power, not wanting her to sacrifice herself for his own happiness. This leads to him acting coy when Regina also wakes up from the curse and tries to form an alliance. Knowing that Rumple is awake as well, Regina tells her old teacher that Belle wouldn't want this, but Rumple simply asks who Belle is, leading to Regina leaving in dismay. ("Pretty in Blue") When coming into conflict with Gothel, a nerve is struck in Rumple when the witch mocks him by asking how Belle is doing. He demands that Gothel not utter his late wife's name. Later on, Rumple gives in and confesses to Rogers that everything he is doing is all in order to reunite with Belle, and so the detective agrees to help him. ("One Little Tear") Rumple is now being honest with Regina about being awake from the curse, and the two disagree over Facilier, Regina believing she can make him into a better man the same way that Belle did for Rumple. Rumple fears, however, that if Facilier succeeds in stealing his dagger then he'll never be reunited with her. When Rumple helps Drizella and Anastasia leave Hyperion Heights, the latter of which is the new Guardian, Regina wonders if Rumple has given up on ever reuniting with Belle. Despite it seeming that way, Rumple chooses to believe that every bit of good he does only brings him closer to her. This goes tested, however, when Rumple and Facilier confront one another later on, Rumple promising to find a loophole and kill Facilier and still reunite with Belle should he interfere with the Dark One's family again. ("The Guardian") Events continue to unravel, and Rumple is losing more and more hope of ever reuniting with Belle. He makes amends with Regina, doing what he can to help take down Gothel. He later finds that Facilier has stolen one of his most prized possessions: the travel book that he gifted Belle before they left Storybrooke, filled with all of the different memories of the life that they shared. Though he manages to reclaim it, he doesn't think he will ever find his way home to her now. ("Is This Henry Mills?") Rumple now must face his greatest threat of all: himself, or rather the wish realm's version of him. Belle 722
At long last, a happy ending... ("Leaving Storybrooke")

Still, he works to bring down the worst version of himself, knowing that the only way to do so is to give his own life in the process. With Nook - the wish realm's version of Hook - dying due to a poisoned heart, Rumple decides to make the ultimate sacrifice by giving Nook his heart, thus saving his old foe-turned-friend and defeating the alternate version of himself once and for all. The Dark One does the right thing, not for a reward, but because it's right, and thus he dies a hero. Regina arrives shortly after where she mourns his loss, thanking him for one last lesson: darkness can always find the light, something that Belle had spent years believing in. Despite Rumple thinking his sacrifice would make his dreams be in vain, Regina refuses to believe this, arguing that he's earned his happy ending and encourages him to go find it. Rumple, meanwhile, finds himself in a rather dark and foggy afterlife, seeming to accept eternal isolation. This, however, is changed upon the flashing of a bright light and the calling out of his name. He turns around and sees Belle standing next to the wishing well in which they were married by, wearing her iconic yellow dress. Belle tells her true love that she knew he'd make it home, and the two embrace in a loving kiss. For now, and for all of eternity, they are together. Happily ever after. ("Leaving Storybrooke")
